In addition to your acoustic guitar, you will need

Capo

 

There are many type available, all of which basically do the same job whihc is to change the pitch of the open strings.  Yopu will need a capo for many beginners arrangements songs.  Example Wonderwall and Patience both need a capo.
 
Tip
Avoid a strap adjustment capo, these need to be adjusted every time you use them.  Go for a spring or lever mechanisim capo, these "lock" on with ease.

Electronic Tuner
 
You can manually tune the strings of your acoustic guitar.  You can also tune with pitch pipes, but hey it's the 21st century, the easiest, simplest and most accurate way for a beginner is by using an electronic tuner.    
 

Acoustic Guitar Stand
 
Do not risk damaging you new beloved instrument, minimise the risk of scratches chips and dents, give it a safe home.  There are many types available, The most popular are A type
 
Tip
If you are going to play your guitar in different locations, consider a travel stand.  These are lightweight and fold down for ease of

Spare set of acoustic guitar metal strings 

 

Always have a spare set available ready to change when you need or want.
 

 

 
Cloth
 
Quite simply clean your strings with a dry cloth at minimum after every use, before you put your instrument away.  This will help prolong the life of your strings.
 

Spare pick(s)

 

You will lose them, have some backup.

 

 

 

String winder

 

Not a necessity, but a very handy tool that makes changing strings easier and quicker.

 

 Gig bag or case

 

Really only needed if you intend to travel with your guitar or want to store it.

 

Tip

If you are going for a bag, go for one with good padding.  There are different levels of padding available.

 

For best protection, especially if your instrument is expensive, go for a hard case
